President Randy Perreira Reelected
Delegates of the the 22nd Biennial Convention of the Hawai'i State AFL-CIO meeting at the Hilton Hawaiian Vollage Coral Ballroom on Friday, October 26 voted unanimously to re-elect Randolph P. Perreira President.
Randy renewed his pledged to do his best to make the voice of the State Labor Federation stronger and ever more effective throughout the next two years of his term.
Special Guest Speakers Dwight Takamine and Russell Kokubun highlighted the convention, addressing the importance of Labor's voice at the legislature.
This convention was also marked by the presence of five delegates from new affiiate, the University of Hawai'i Professional Assembly, the Union representing over 3000 faculty and the several campuses of the Univrsoty of Hawai'i System. And representation from the recently organized Hawai'i chapter of Pride at Work, a recognized constituency group of the National AFL-CIO.
In addition to adopting seven general resolutions and six legislative resolutions, delegates took time to honor retiring Union leaders, Russell Okata of HGEA, Harry Kameenui of IBEW 1260, Herbert Kaopua, Sr. of the Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local 675 and Michael Largatichia of the Musicians Union.
