The "Norman Ahakuelo"

United Way Labor Award

The award is named to honor the memory of Norman Ahakuelo, a Business Manager - Financial Secretary for the IBEW Local 1260, who strongly supported the United Way and was one of the founding fathers of our local Community Services Program. This esteemed and visionary leader was honored by countless friends and constituents in the business, labor, human services and political community. He will be remembered as a man of his word and we will always be grateful for his contributions in making the quality of life better for union members as well as for the greater community. This great man was a revered leader and a dear friend with a powerful commitment and passion for the labor movement, always striving to improve the working conditions and quality of life for all people. His legacy is a lesson to us all: "to learn from the past in order to focus on the future".

CENESUS 2010

Your support as a 2010 Census partner is needed, and funds to help us get the word out are available. Whether it is communication through newsletters, meetings and e-news, our accurate Census data is extremely important. Here's why:

  1. The Census determines how many seats each state will have in the U. S. House of Representatives, as well as redistricting the voting districts.

  2. Every year, more than $300 BILLION in federal funds are awarded to states based on this data.

  3. Census data guide decision makers in community planning such as where to build new roads, hospitals and schools.

Mandated by the U. S. Constitution, a national Census occurs every 10 years. Next Census Day is April 1, 2010, and questionnaires will be mailed or delivered to all households in March of 2010. All residents, both citizens and non-citizens, must be counted. As influential organizations, all unions and community groups can help in raising awareness.

If you have any questions please contact Lynn Ching at 543-2212.
